Volunteering Opportunities
Support your community by volunteering your time & skills
Volunteer with us to help improve our community, our surroundings and our overall well-being.
Volunteering can be a life-changing experience, for the people that volunteers help and for you – the volunteer! There’s an opportunity to suit everyone and at Mow & Glow Ltd we love supporting you and our community to find the right opportunity – particularly if you need a little extra help, support or company.
More often than not, we would not be able to offer all the wonderful things we do in our community without our brilliant team of volunteers. As a result, we are always on the lookout for new volunteers so if you have a spare hour or two and are interested in helping at your local community, elderly or people in need, then get in touch.
Who can volunteer?
If you’ve never volunteered before it may seem like a big step to start volunteering, but it’s easier than you might think!
Volunteering is open and accessible to as many people as possible – and we think everyone should try it!
You can usually volunteer if you are looking for work, claiming most benefits, in work, in education or an asylum seeker nor eligible to do paid work.
Volunteering offers the chance to gain new skills or a new perspective. It can be a great way to meet new people and build confidence in different situations. Volunteering can also help you feel really good about yourself – because you get to help others, contribute to your local community and champion good causes – all of which can be great for your own mental health and wellbeing.
1. Young People
For young people, volunteering can open up a world of opportunity. There are lower age restrictions on some roles, of 16 or 18, but there are some roles for under 16s as well. Volunteering enables young people to:

gain self-confidence
fee less anxious
2. Older People
For older people, volunteering can provide support and companionship. Volunteering enables older people to:
socialise
share their interests and experiences
explore and develop new interests
contribute to the community
feel valued
build relationships
3. People from diverse communities
For people from diverse communities, volunteering can provide an inclusive and supportive opportunity to become involved with communities and learn. Volunteering enables people from diverse communities to:
contribute unique skills
share their interests and lived experiences
feel respected
contribute to and be part of the community
be valued
build relationships and supportive peer groups
How to volunteer?
It’s simple - just get in touch!
Volunteering is open, accessible and easy - just get in touch via our contact form or send us an email of interest to our online email address: admin@mowandglow.co.uk.
If you have more questions and require further information, don’t hesitate to get in touch - we think everyone should try volunteering and we are here to discuss how and where you can volunteer. We will also provide individual assistance to identify the right role and/ or skills development for you.
What volunteering opportunities are there?
There’s such a wide variety of voluntary work available that you’re sure to find something that interests and suits you!
We have opportunities from small community groups, local and national charities, as well as health and social services in all aspects of gardening, landscaping, pressure washing and commercial services - be it from designing gardens with us, to develop plant based ecosystems or working to remedy and clean conservatories, patios and walkways for those in need. We also have opportunities to work on our digital presence, social media and brand awareness campaigns.
What to expect?
We do everything for you and provide you with a mentor that provides you with the tools, safety equipment and guidance you need…
We will more than likely to be volunteering for a not-for-profit, charitable, statutory organisation or private client, where they will give us clear guidance on what needs to be completed or how we can support them. From here your mentor will provide you with all the tools needed, instruct you on health and safety (if needed) and provide you any training to help you to complete your tasks at hand.
You should expect to be welcomed and appreciated for your time and often you will see the direct difference your help makes to others.
If you are travelling on your own, you should usually expect to receive any travel expenses to and from or during your volunteering activity. Any additional costs such as DBS checks (if required) or food/ lunch should be covered by yourself.
At Mow & Glow Ltd we also provide regular support and supervision to all their volunteers and although the details and logistics of each volunteer position will vary between tasks, you’ll always be able to ask questions – whenever and as frequently as you like.
Volunteering Top Tips?
When deciding which volunteering opportunity is right for you, think about a number of factors - this could include your current or previous skills and experience or skills you want to gain and develop...
Begin by thinking about how much time you can offer - although we at Mow & Glow Ltd are flexible, we will still expect reliable attendance, especially for training or supporting in order to the needs of our community.
Where possible, your mentor will endeavour to collect you from home and transport you to your volunteering place of work, so you need not worry. However, on occasion, you may also need to consider the location where you volunteer and how long it will take you to get there by yourself.
There are opportunities in almost all the areas and postcodes across Kirklees, Wakefield and Leeds but you may travel further for some roles (if needed). Alternatively, there are home based roles where you may not need to travel but have access to work that is local to you - it all depends on what is needed.
If you are not available on a regular basis you could choose to help out with one-off activities or events or choose something you enjoy! It’s entirely up to you and we work with you and around your needs too…
